Ways To Save At The Pump
The expensive prices of gasoline has left many looking for methods to squeeze a few more miles out of a liter of gas. Saving money on fuel expenditures is not rocket science. It can be as simple as changing your driving habits, maintaining your car and replacing its dirty air filter. Here are a few simple ways that can make a big difference at the pump.
You need to avoid extended warming up of your engine. Make sure that it will not exceed 30 to 45 seconds to prevent it from heating up.
Keep away from starting and stopping your engine unnecessarily. If you keep your engine idle for one minute, the gas amount consumed is equal to when you start the engine.
Do away with jack-rabbit starts. Increase speed gradually when starting from dead stop. Do not push pedal down more than 1/4 of the total foot travel. This allows carburetor to function at peak efficiency.
Avoid "reving" the engine of your car. This should not be done particularly in a minute before you switch off the engine for it wastes fuel and washes oil down from the inside cylinder walls, due to loss of oil pressure.
Be practical in choosing gasoline. Do not purchase higher octane gas than your vehicle needs. Higher octane gas is more costly than traditional fuel, so if your vehicle doesn't really need it, don't waste your money for it.
